Man arrested for pot in backpack

A Vicksburg man is charged with possession marijuana after his arrest Thursday at the Cappaert Homes plant on U.S. 61 South, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.
Robert Hunt, 36, 380 Grange Hall Road, was arrested after surveillance cameras at the plant reportedly filmed him hiding a backpack in the plant welding shop and plant security called police. Edwards said the backpack contained three bags of marijuana with a total weight of 1.5 ounces and a digital scale.
Hunt was released on $2,500 bond.
In other cases:
• A DeWalt impact gun and electric saw, and a Milwaukee handsaw were reported taken about 1:34 p.m. Thursday from a Dodge 3500 pickup parked at Riverwalk Casino, 1046 Warrenton Road.
• A 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun and a 12 gauge J.T. Sports shotgun were reported taken from a Dodge Charger parked in the 1900 block of Baldwin Ferry Road.
Police made the following arrests Wednesday and Thursday:
• James Robert Reed, no age or address given, was arrested about 1:49 a.m. Wednesday in the 4100 block of Washington Street on a charge of trespassing.
• Jason Antonio Shelton, 35, 2604 Togo St., was arrested about 3:25 p.m. Thursday in the 1100 block of Monroe Street on charges if begging, disorderly conduct and giving false information to police.
• Jamaal Patrick Williams, 26, 402 Locust St., was arrested about 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the intersections of Clay and Farmer streets on two counts of contempt of court. He was also served with warrants.
• Warrants were served on Jefferey Brown, 30, 30 Whipperwill Road.
• Warrants were served on James Carl Friley, 50, 10150 U.S. 61 South.
• A warrant was served on Daphne Laverene Sanders, 58, 10 Archie Drive.
