Darlene May Smith

Darlene May Smith, 83, of Vicksburg passed away peacefully on March 16, 2018.
Darlene was born On May 12, 1934 in Mcouphin County, Illinois, the daughter of Clinton and Verna Rector.
Darlene married and moved to Mississippi in 1962. After raising her family, she served as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital and before she retired, she drove as a team driver with her husband.
Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, painting and crafts.

She sewed for her children and made quilts. She was a member of the local quilting circle for several years. She was actively involved in the Vicksburg Senior Center where
she discovered her love of painting. 

She did many paintings for friends and family and was very excited when others bought her art.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Illinois.

For many years she attended Redbone United Methodist Church and enjoyed exercise at Bowmar Baptist Church. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Clinton Stephen Jones.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Samuel Smith and children, Deborah Smith Horstman (Buddy), Patricia Smith Jones (Steve), Colleen Smith Embry (Tommy) and Harold Lee Smith (Michelle), eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends.

Services are Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel, 145 Hwy 80 in Vicksburg at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held at 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018. 

Burial will be at Green Lawn Garden Cemetary on Highway 80.
Flowers can be sent to Glenwood Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Cancer Foundation designated for the Cancer Services Fund, 1225 North State Street, Jackson, Mississippi 39202.
