OXFORD — A powerful pitching performance and a couple of home runs were all the Ole Miss Rebels needed to start a new winning streak.

James McArthur and Parker Caracci combined on a four-hit shutout, and the Rebels belted three home runs as they beat Tennessee 5-0 Sunday in the finale of their three-game series at Swayze Field.

Ole Miss (19-2, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) won the last two games after Tennessee (13-8, 1-2) took the opener on Friday to snap Ole Miss’ nine-game winning streak.

Adams and the pitching staff had a lot to do with it.

Adams led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run on Sunday. He also reached base on an error and scored on a double by Ryan Olenek in the fifth inning.

Adams was 6-for-10 with five RBIs and four runs scored in the three-game series.

“I just got my barrel around to it and got just enough of it to get it out of here,” Adams said of the home run, which was his second of the season, in a postgame interview with The Oxford Eagle. “Really, just been trying to stay aggressive. Seeing fastballs, hunting fastballs and adjusting to off-speed. Trying to stay aggressive with my approach.”

Cole Zabowski hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to push Ole Miss’ lead to 3-0, and Thomas Dillard hit a two-run shot in the eighth to put it out of reach.

The big cushion was more than enough for McArthur and Caracci to work with. They each allowed two hits and combined for 11 strikeouts in the victory. McArhtur (3-0) walked three batters in six innings, while Caracci walked none over the last three innings in earning his first save of the season.

After giving up a season-high eight runs in Friday’s series opener, Ole Miss’ pitchers held Tennessee to one run and nine hits total in the last two games.

“Just filling up the zone with a fastball. A whole lot of fastballs today,” McArthur said. “Just attacking hitters. I felt real strong all day. We have a really talented staff as far as pitching goes. We had Parker come out and dominate. The depth on our staff is just huge. We always know that we have a chance.”
