Vicksburg Police officer Judson Maglorie said a Buick LeSabre was traveling south on Washington Street when the driver failed to stop for the school bus striking the 9-year-old child who had disembarked and was walking across the street to the house opposite the fire station.

“She (the student) got off the bus, the driver had her stop sign on indicating to stop,” Maglorie said. “The witnesses along with the bus driver stated that the suspect’s vehicle never came to a complete stop at all and as the juvenile victim was crossing the street she was struck by the vehicle.”

Ditanun Demon Simpson, 30, who was driving the car, was taken into custody, Maglorie said. Maglorie said Simpson is facing multiple charges including reckless driving, no driver’s license and no proof of insurance and more charges are possible pending further investigation.
