Mary Jo Nelson died Tuesday, March 27, 2018. She was 71.

Mary Jo was born in Vicksburg to the late Charles Brent Katzenmeyer and Mary Catherine Branciere Katzenmeyer. She was a 1965 graduate of St. Francis Xavier Academy. Mary Jo was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she served as the church bookkeeper for 35 years. She also served on the Altar Society and volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Nelson.

She is survived by her daughter, Rae Nelson of Vicksburg; three sons, Ryan Nelson (Kim) of Birmingham, Ala., Riley Nelson (Jennifer) of Vicksburg, and Russ Nelson (Kimberly) of Brandon; her grandchildren, to whom she was lovingly referred to as “Jo Jo”, Julia, Reid, Raegan and Marilee; two sisters, Carol Jean Fuller and Karen Curran (Billy); her brother, Bill Katzenmeyer (Delores); her brother-in- law, Bill Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2018, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Tom Lalor officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the hour of service at the church.

Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Aaron George, Anthony Rector, Brian Hadad, Brian McDuff, Jimmy Kendrick, and Syd Johnston.

Her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
