Kathryn Boyd Newell

McCOMB — Kathryn Boyd Newell, 84, of McComb passed away peacefully with family by her side Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

Born July 24, 1933, in McComb, she was the daughter of the late Thad and Maydee Boyd. She graduated from McComb High School in 1951.

Kathryn was a devout Christian, adoring wife to Alvin, and a remarkable mother and grandmother. She loved making others laugh with her witty sense of humor and never met a stranger. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed writing poetry in her free time.

She leaves behind a multitude of those she was honored to call her friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Monroe Newell Sr.; her brother, Haskel Boyd; and her sister, Dorothy Green.

She is survived by her son, Alvin Monroe Newell and wife, Melanie of The Woodlands, Texas; a daughter, Pat Humphries and husband, Mike of Vicksburg; her sister, Loraine Johnston of Laurel; and her brother, Cecil Boyd and wife Willie of Slidell, La.; six granddaughters, Lauren Martin (Eric), Brooke Cheslek (Joel), Whitney Ballay (Andrew), Lindsey Bruton (Cody), Megan Sanders (Will) and Katie Humphries; and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 12, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hartman Jones Funeral Home in McComb, 1801 Delaware Ave., and will continue Friday at First Baptist Church McComb from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m. Dr. Woody Rimes will officiate. Interment will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brad Boyd, Eric Martin, Joel Cheslek, Andrew Ballay, Cody Bruton and Will Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Southern Christian Services for Children and Youth, 860 E River Place, Jackson, MS 39202 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
