Dumpster Day scheduled for May 19

Vicksburg residents will have the opportunity in May to get rid of their household trash and junk during a Dumpster Day sponsored by the city of Vicksburg.

“We had one in 2016,” community development director Victor Grey-Lewis said. “The (Vicksburg) Beautification Committee would like to see this become a biannual event — once in the fall and once in the spring.”

Dumpster Day is set for May 19 from 8 to 3 p.m.

Waste Management, he said, will have large containers at several locations: Warren Central High School on Rosa A. Temple Drive, the Halls Ferry Park parking lot near the tennis courts, North Washington Street and Pittman Road, and at the Vicksburg Municipal Airport, U.S. 61 South.

Grey-Lewis said city employees will be stationed at each site to ensure and verify the proper items are disposed.

He said the sites will not accept paint, appliances or equipment with Freon, old gas tanks, batteries, computers and monitors, televisions, fax machines, fluorescent bulbs or any type of oil.

Those items can be disposed of during Warren County’s Hazardous Waste Day on June 16.

Tires, however, will be accepted and picked up by Warren County.
