Warren County residents who are not registered to vote and want to cast a ballot in the June primary have until Monday to register at the circuit clerk’s office.

Circuit Clerk Jan Daigre’s office, located in the Warren County courthouse, is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday to accept in-person applications.

“Governance begins at the ballot box when citizens cast their vote on Election Day,” Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said.  “I am encouraging all eligible, voting age Mississippians to fill out and file their registration application today.”

An individual is eligible to register to vote if he or she is at least 18 years old, or will be 18 years old by Nov. 6 (the date of the General Election); is a Mississippi resident; has not been convicted in a Mississippi court of a disenfranchising crime; and has not been adjudicated as mentally incompetent. Mississippi currently has more than 1.8 million active registered voters.

Citizens who have already registered to vote in Mississippi but moved since the last election or changed their name can update their information online at yallvote.sos.ms.gov.

Voters must identify their party affiliation while at the polls June 5 in the primary election. The Republican primary ballot will include Richard Warren Boyanton facing incumbent Sen. Roger Wicker for the U.S. Senate seat. The winner will face the top vote getter among six candidates on the Democratic primary ballot that includes David Baria, Jansen Bohren, Jerone Garland, Victor G. Maurice Jr., Omeria Scott and Howard Sherman.

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson is also on the Democratic primary ticket, but does not have any opposition to his Second Congressional District seat.

There is no primary election for Mississippi’s other U.S. Senate seat that was occupied by the now retired Sen. Thad Cochran. The field of candidates will run in the November general election.
