Mississippi State overcomes early deficit to beat Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Justin Foscue hit a go-ahead, two-run double in the sixth inning, and Mississippi State overcame an early three-run deficit to beat Alabama 6-4 on Sunday.

Keith Holcombe went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, and Cobie Vance had two hits and scored twice for Alabama (24-25, 6-18 Southeastern Conference), which crept out to a 3-0 lead after four innings.

Mississippi State (27-22, 12-13), however, scored twice in the fifth, three times in the sixth to take the lead for good, and tacked on one more run in the seventh on an RBI double by Tanner Allen.

Foscue and Elijah MacNamee drove in two runs apiece for the Bulldogs, and Hunter Stovall was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. J.P. France allowed one run and struck out four in five innings of relief to earn the victory.

Mississippi State took two of three on the weekend to win its second SEC series in three tries. Two of the games against the Crimson Tide went to extra innings, and the three were decided by a total of five runs.

Mississippi State plays Troy Wednesday in Hoover, Ala., in its final midweek game of the season. It will then finish the regular season with a pair of three-game SEC series at Kentucky and home against conference leader Florida.
