Man in critical condition after early morning shooting

A man was airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in critical condition after an early morning shooting on Bowmar Avenue.

Vicksburg Police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said the shooting occurred around 2:20 a.m. in the 1100 block of Bowmar Avenue. When units arrived on scene, they reportedly found a 53 year old man lying on the ground who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest.

The victim was originally transported to Merit Health River Region, but later airlifted to UMMC where he remained in the ICU on a breathing machine as of Sunday afternoon, Edwards said.

The case remains under investigation, Edwards said.
