Five people were transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center following an accident between an 18-wheeler and a Ford Expedition on Interstate 20 westbound Sunday evening.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Kervin Stewart said MHP responded to a wreck on I-20 just outside the Vicksburg city limits around 10:30 p.m. Sunday. A 2003 Ford Expedition lost control and sideswiped an 18-wheeler before leaving the roadway and overturning several times, Stewart said. The SUV came to a rest on the westbound shoulder.

The Expedition and the 18-wheeler were both traveling westbound at the time of the accident.

“The driver and the passenger of the 18-Wheeler were not injured,” Stewart said. “The driver and the four passengers in the Ford Expedition were all transported to UMMC for their injuries, none of which appeared to be life-threatening.”

The accident remains under investigation by MHP.
