ATHENS, Tenn. — Lawrence Curtis Nielsen Jr. 80, of Athens, Tenn., and formerly of Vicksburg, died Saturday, May 26, 2018 at NHC of Athens.

He was a native of Crowville, La., and was a son of the late Lawrence Curtis Sr. and Frances Allen Nielsen. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Maxine Uzzle, Vivian Sturdivant and Elaine Brent.

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, was a lay preacher and a member of the Gideon’s. He owned and operated Mobile Home Service Company in Vicksburg for 20 years, where he installed and serviced heating and air conditioning Systems.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Hart Nielsen; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathi and Harold (Chuck) Jackson, all of Athens; two grandchildren and their spouses, Kimberly and Dub Wigley and Jason and Heather Jackson; two great-grandchildren, Madyson Wigley and Sean Jackson; and one sister, Ellen Armstrong of Vicksburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer and Roberta Nielsen and Shelton and Faye Nielsen, all of Vicksburg; and several nieces and nephews .

A graveside service will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Cedar Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Arwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Baker, George Connors, Paul Arnett and Dave Mason.
