Officials are warning the public for the potential threat of excessive heat and thunderstorms.
Warren County Emergency Management Director John Elfer says local residents should take precautions and be weather ready.
“The heat and humidity over the next few days will increase the heat index and result in increased heat stress,” Elfer said. “Heat illness can be very dangerous and we encourage everyone that will be engaging in outdoor activities to use caution. There is also a slight chance for some storms on Saturday evening into Saturday night. These could be severe and we
encourage everyone to ensure that your alert systems are in place and working.”
According to the National Weather Service, the combination of warm temperatures in the low to mid-90s with high humidity will lead to peak heat indices approaching 105 today. This will result in increased heat stress. Those who will be spending extended amounts of time outdoors are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activities, and take frequent breaks.
