“Jamie told me she was excited about this show and that when she went into her studio back in December she didn’t want to come out,” Attic Gallery owner Lesley Silver said.

Tate, who is known for her Mississippi Delta Landscapes, works primarily in acrylic and most of her work is abstract.

“A favorite instructor once advised, ‘paint what you know,’ Tate said, and that is what she has done.

Growing up in the Delta, Tate said she explored the fields and pastures and woodlands that surround her and said she feels an intimate attachment to and fascination with the Mississippi Delta.

“My painting style consists of colorful underpaintings, with layers of paint building a surface rich with color and textures. I often use lines and markings for visual interest and to define the space, which is often rather flat,” she said.

Following Tate’s talk, guests are welcome to explore the show, which will be on display through June.

Saturday, Travis Mills will be on hand to talk about his film work in Mississippi, prior to the screening of “Cornbread Cosa Nostra.”

The movie, which was produced by Mills and Running Wild Films is based on true events surrounding the Dixie Mafia on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

“It takes place from 1982 to the early 2000s, tracking a FBI agent who investigates the notorious crime organization,” Mills said.

“Nearly all the characters are based off real people, but the names have been changed. The film has a dark comedic touch, like Miami Vice by way of the Coen Brothers,” he said.

“Cornbread Cosa Nostra” was filmed in Mississippi in October of 2017 and recently premiered in Ocean Springs.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. at the Strand Theatre, 717 Clay St.

Advance tickets for the screening are $10 at the Highway 61 Coffeehouse and $15 at the door. They are also available online at cornbreadstrand.brownpapertickets.com.

In addition to Mills’ talk, he said a couple of members of the cast and crew will also be in attendance for this special showing.
