Summer tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s summer youth tennis program will begin Tuesday and continue through the end of July at Halls Ferry Park. The camp is free, and for players of all skill levels from ages 7-18. Sessions will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, with a second junior team tennis session from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Clear Creek Ladies report

Clear Creek Ladies Golf Association members met Wednesday for stroke play. Carol Roberson won Flight A. The Flight B winner was Connie Kegerreis, and the Flight C winner was Beth Jones. Joyce Johnson logged the fewest putts, while Johnson and Lynne Brush made chip-ins.

WC baseball camp

Warren Central will host its annual youth baseball camp June 11-14 at Viking Field.

The camp is for children ages 5-14, and focuses on teaching baseball fundamentals and sportsmanship through various drills and games. Instructors include Warren Central coaches and players.

The cost is $100 per camper. Registration is at the WC baseball fieldhouse from 7:30 to a.m. on Monday, June 11. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to noon each day.

Players should bring cleats, shorts, T-shirt, tennis shoes, a baseball glove, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes on Friday. The final day of the camp includes sliding drills on a wet tarp.

Alcorn State football camp

The 2018 Fred “Air” McNair Football Camp will take place June 9 on the campus of Alcorn State University. The camp is for players in grades 9-12, and the cost is $15 per camper. The fee includes a camp T-shirt and instruction from Alcorn head coach Fred McNair and his coaching staff.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. in the gym at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The camp runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the football practice field.

Star-Spangled Night Run

The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation will present the first Star Spangled Night Run on June 30 in downtown Vicksburg. The 5K run and walk will begin at 8 p.m., and the start-finish line will be at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.

Registration is now open. The fee is $30 for adults or $15 for children 12 and under. Entry forms and information are available by visiting southernculture.org/events, or by calling 601-631-2997 or emailing info@southernculture.org.

Entry forms and fees can be dropped off at the SCHF Business Office, 601 Sports or mailed to SCHF, 1302 Adams Street, Vicksburg, MS 39180. Online registration is available at RaceRoster.com.
Race packet pick-up will be June 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the SCHF Auditorium, and also before the race at the race site starting at 6 p.m.
