Toney’s Grill and Seafood Market, which was formerly known as Toney’s Restaurant and Lounge, has moved from Mission 66 to 710 Highway 61 north, located near the Sonic Drive-in.

Toney’s Seafood’s Market was previously located there at Highway 61, but the move brings the restaurant and market together under the same roof, so patrons can dine or visit the bar at the grill and do their shopping at the same place.

Owner Charles Toney Jr., said the move was made with not only bringing the market and restaurant together in mind, but because it also made sense business-wise.

“The traffic flow on that side of town, the lunch business was good at the old place, the night business was real slow,” Toney said. “There’s no traffic. A lot of the businesses down there are gone, closed, just the traffic count on Mission 66 after five o’clock is terrible.”

With the move also comes a few alterations to the menu, but favorites, like their “smashed po-boy,” are still available.

“The menu changed some. We’ve got fried shrimp, oysters, seafood platters, boiled shrimp, crab legs,” Toney said. “We took some stuff away, we added some stuff, we have crawfish during season, we have tuna, we have redfish, we fry, grill, we do it all.”

The biggest change with the move comes aesthetically. Toney said the new location has a totally new look compared to the old restaurant, with a theme inspired by his offshore fishing charter business in Grand Isle, Louisiana.

“The restaurant is in a totally different way than it was before,” Toney said. “We have some of the same items and then some of the items we didn’t bring with us.

“This is a more rustic atmosphere, it’s a nautical-themed, ship-themed type deal,” Toney explained. “Boats, fishing rods, all sorts of stuff. Concrete floors, a lot of rusted tin, moss, cypress trees, that kind of stuff. Totally new atmosphere, nothing even close to the other place.”

The new atmosphere also includes outdoor seating and a bar, which Toney built to look like a replica of the back of his charter boat.

The restaurant is handicap accessible, and features live music and entertainment, the schedule for which can be seen on its Facebook page.
