Sheriff’s deputy Silento McMorris was the first deputy on the scene and arrived to find the child’s father and a neighbor administering CPR. McMorris continued the CPR as county firefighters and Vicksburg Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene.

The child was taken to Merit Health River Region and then transferred to University of Mississippi Center, where she later died. The cause of death was listed as accidental drowning.

According to sheriff’s office reports, the child had gone with her father to check on his horses kept at a home in the 400 block of Loredo. While the father was checking the horses, the child wandered off. The father quickly realized the child was missing, went to look for her, and found her in the pool.
