Day one of the Clear Creek Club Championship is in the books, and the competition is still tight.
In the championship flight Keith Erhardt shot a 78, Tom Jones shot a 79, Kevin Neihaus shot an 81 and Trey Martin finished at 82.
In the first flight, Mike Hurley finished at 84, Jim Warren finished at 86, Mark White finished at 89 and Luke Yocum shot a 95.
In the senior championship flight, Jim Darnelle shot a 74, Jeff Cowan shot a 75, Joe Grayson shot a 78 and Richard Rogers and Hugh Hasty finished at 79.
In the senior first flight Bob Burr shot an 80, Mike Caruthers shot an 81, Wayne Scott shot an 84, Joe Tom shot an 88 and Reed Mosher shot a 92.
“It was good. It was hot, tough conditions, and the scores were a little high because the heat and the course is set up pretty hard for them,” course pro Kent Smith said. “It’s close, have a lot of tight scores, pretty much any flight anybody can win”.
“They’re competitive but they’re having fun too,” Smith said. “It’s a lot of guys that know each other pretty well, and they’ll get after each other tomorrow.”
The club championship is different from most of the events at Clear Creek, as it is scored individually.
“Most of the time they’re playing team events and scrambles and fun stuff like that,” Smith said. “Twice a year they get to test their abilities and see what they can shoot.”
Day two kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.
