To the editor:

Like many fellow citizens, I am happy with the work of Vicksburg’s government over the past year as summarized by Mayor George Flaggs in the Post, July 5.

A wise man once said, “Government is not a business.” True! The purpose of business is to make a profit for its owners and investors. The purpose of government is far more complex, its requirements diverse. Therefore, as the wise man continued, “While it is not a business, to do a good job, government must be BUSINESSLIKE.” 

I think the wise man would be very pleased with the accomplishments of the Flaggs administration, especially its fiscal responsibility.
