School district to host info session Thursday with local contractors

Those in the construction industry interested in learning more about opportunities to work on the upcoming building and renovation projects with the Vicksburg Warren School District are encouraged to attend an informational meeting Thursday at 10 a.m. in the VWSD board room, 1500 Mission 66.

Voters approved the VWSD’s $83 million bond referendum in March, which will fund a majority of a $131.5 million facilities plan that includes major renovations and expansions at the two high schools, the construction of a new Academy of Innovation, renovations at each of the district’s schools and upgrades tot he current athletic facilities including AstroTurf and new tracks.

The remaining $48.5 million will be funded as debt from the construction of two mega-schools — Sherman Avenue and Dana Road — which were built in 1999 roll off the books.

In June, the district received four reroofing bids for Beechwood Elementary School.

The low bidder was E Cornell Malone Corporation out of Jackson with a bid of $1,322,570. The next lowest bid came from Roofing Solutions from Prairieville, Louisiana, with a bid of $1,412,000.

Independent Roofing Solutions from Jackson bid $1,488,000 for the project, and Industrial Roofing and Construction was the highest bidder at $1,750,000.

Earlier this month, two companies submitted bids for the roofing project at Vicksburg Junior High.

The low bid came from Roofing Solutions LLC at $1,659,500. The second bid for the Vicksburg Junior High project came from E Cornell Malone Corp at $1,687,740.

Both projects will be awarded at the Board of Trustees meeting Thursday afternoon.

The project management team of Dale Bailey Architects will be on hand at Thursday’s meeting to discuss such items as:

• Planned projects for the bond issue (in summary)

• Anticipated dates for the first phases of the projects

• Who the design team is

• Who can bid on a project

• How vendors and subcontractors can find plan holders/general contactors

• How projects will be awarded
