The St. Aloysius swim team earned a clean sweep in its first meet of the season.
St. Al’s boys and girls teams both won all three of their head-to-head matchups and 16 of the 22 events at the four-way Flash Splash meet at City Pool on Tuesday. Warren Central, Vicksburg High and Cathedral also competed.
St. Al’s boys’ team had eight individual victories from six swimmers. Adam Eckstein (200-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke) and Tommy Martin (200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke) each won two events. Jacob Waisner (50 freestyle), Jon Daniel Busby (100 freestyle), Luke Larson (100 butterfly) and Layne Sanders (500 freestyle) each won one.
The Flashes also won the 400 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay. They beat Warren Central 66-29 in the team competition; Vicksburg 70-10; and Cathedral 71-10.
All four teams competed in the same races, but were scored against each other rather than overall to get the team scores.
Warren Central beat Vicksburg 47-13 and Cathedral 49-10, and got the only non-St. Al victory in the boys’ meet. The 200 freestyle relay team of Scott Wallace, James Hossley, Hayden Jones and Nate Crimbley won with a time of 1 minute, 50.16 seconds.
The same team finished second in the 200 medley relay, and Crimbley was second in the 100 freestyle.
Kameren Batty was second in the boys’ 50 freestyle for Vicksburg’s best finish. The Gators beat Cathedral 17-15.
In the girls’ meet, Emily Cook won the 50 and 100 freestyle events to lead St. Al to three team wins. It beat Vicksburg 47-14, Cathedral 54-8, and Warren Central 47-37.
Leah Larson won the 100 butterfly and Katelyn Clark the 500 freestyle for St. Al. The team of Cook, Larson, Sam Graves and Chandler Tucker won both the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Warren Central had a good showing, with five event victories and easy team wins over Cathedral (48-10) and Vicksburg (47-14).
Abi Wallace won the 200-yard individual medley and 100 backstroke, and teamed with Bree Butler, Katie Wallace and Alexis Renne to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Butler won the 100 breaststroke and Hannah Somerville the 200 freestyle.
Vicksburg’s Julianna Juve finished second in the 500 freestyle to help the Missy Gators edge Cathedral 17-14.
