Mad Scientist 5K

The second annual Mad Scientist 5K is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 8 at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research and Development Center campus. The event will include a 5K run and race walk, as well as a one-mile fun run, and begins at 8 a.m. Raceday registration will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday.
The registration fee is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run. A team rate for 3-5 members is also available for $100.

Bricks and Spokes

The 9th annual Bricks and Spokes bike ride is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, in and around Vicksburg and Warren County. The recreational ride will feature 10-, 30-, 50- and 62-mile routes spanning the city and county. All types of bicycles are welcome, but all riders must wear helmets.

Adult softball registration

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s adult co-ed fall softball league will continue through Sept. 13 at the Parks and Recreation office on Army Navy Drive. The league is for men and women, and the registration fee is $175 per team plus an additional $10 for each Warren County resident and $20 for residents of Sharkey, Issaquena and Claiborne counties.

Fall baseball registration

Registration for the City of Vicksburg’s fall youth baseball league will continue through Sept. 12 at the Parks and Recreation office on Army Navy Drive. The league is for children ages 5-12, and the registration fee is $25 per child. For more information, call 601-634-4514.

Fall tennis program

The City of Vicksburg’s fall tennis program is now under way. Sessions are held each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. at Halls Ferry Park through the end of the year. The program is for children ages 7-18, and is free. For more information, call Rick Shields at 601-618-4757.

Over the River Run

The 30th annual Over the River Run, a 5-mile run and walk across the Old Mississippi River Bridge, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13 at 8 a.m. at the Mississippi Welcome Center on Washington Street. The registration fee is $25 for the 5-mile races, or $10 for the children’s 1-mile fun run for children 10-and-under. There is also a $75 group rate for up to five family members living at the same address. The entry fee includes a long sleeve T-shirt and admission to the postrace party in Ameristar Casino’s Delta Point parking lot.
