Katie Louise Smith Larry, age 86, passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving and devoted
family on Monday, Sept. 3, 2018. Mrs. Larry attended the public schools in Jefferson County,
Mississippi. At an early age, she confessed her life to Christ at East Mount Olive Baptist Church, Red Lick.
She retired after many years as a nurse’s aide from Sydney Convalescent Home and became a private
caretaker to family members of several families including the Latham and John (Shirlye) Stahl families.
Mrs. Larry was preceded in death by her parents, George E. Smith, Sr. and Mrs. Ruby L. McAllister Smith;
her maternal grandparents, Emmanuel and Irene McAllister; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Katie
Smith; her husband, Herman Larry; a daughter, Shirley Ann Larry; a sister, Doris Smith Odom; two
brothers, infant Roosevelt Smith and George E. Smith, Jr.; a niece, Catherine Mayfield Maness; a nephew, Arthur L. Mayfield, Jr.; and two great nephews, Adrian Bright and Eric Mayfield.
She is survived by her eight daughters, Patricia L. Tolliver, Anchorage, Alaska; Dorothy (Billy Ray) L.
McDaniel, Long Beach, California; Joyce A. Larry, Shelia L. (Jesse Ray) Gilliam, Carolyn L. McMiller, Gwendolyn J. Brown, Terry A. Brown, and Deborah L. Brown, all of Vicksburg; five sons, Frederic M.
Smith, Lonoke, Arkansas; Ronnie (Terry) Smith, Sr., Teddy L. (Pam) Williams, Sr., Bryant S. Smith, Sr., and
Jerry L. (Sharon) Brown, Sr.; 19 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; six sisters, Dorothy S. Mayfield,
Irene S. Mayfield, Pearl S. (Sidney) Thomas, Deloris S. (James) Harrington, Shirley J. Smith, and Gladys M.
Smith, all of Vicksburg; one brother, Willie H. (Betty) Smith, Sr.; sister-in-law, Ernestine Smith, Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends including nieces, nephews, and cousins including the Green family of Port
Gibson and the McAllister family of Boston.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, 11 a.m., Travelers Rest Baptist Church, with Rev. Gregory Mayfield officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 1-7 p.m., Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home, with family present from 5-6 p.m., and an hour before the service on Saturday at Travelers Rest Baptist
Church.
