The St. Aloysius Flashes will head to the MAIS Overall State Swim Meet with a victory, a second-place finish, and some positive momentum.

Tommy Martin won the boys’ 200-yard individual medley to lead the Flashes to a second-place team finish at their St. Aloysius Invitational Saturday at City Pool.

St. Al totaled 35 points to finish behind Madison-St. Joseph’s 52 in the team standings. St. Andrew’s was third, with 28 points, and Alexandria (La.) and Cleveland Central tied for fourth with 23.
Martin won the 200 IM with a time of 2 minutes, 14.85 seconds and was also on the 200-yard medley relay team that finished second.

Jacob Waisner placed fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly.
Warren Central’s boys placed eighth in the team standings, with most of its nine points coming courtesy of a fourth-place performance by Nate Crimbley in the 50 freestyle. Scott Wallace was fifth in the 200 IM.

In the girls’ meet, Warren Central’s Abi Wallace placed third in the 200 individual medley and St. Al’s Leah Larson was third in the 100 butterfly.

St. Al finished sixth in the girls’ team standings, with 17 points, and Warren Central scored six points to tie Cleveland Central for seventh place. Alexandria won the girls’ meet with 54 points, and Madison-St. Joe was second with 42.

A total of 16 teams and 340 swimmers participated in the meet, which is one of the largest regular-season high school meets in Mississippi.

It was a tune-up for the MAIS state meet for St. Al, as well. The Flashes, who have finished second each of the past two years, will head to Delta State University on Sept. 19 to compete.
