A weekly recap of performances by college football and NFL players from Vicksburg-area high schools:
• Alcorn State wide receiver Tavares Johnson, Jr. (Vicksburg High) caught one pass for 15 yards and a touchdown in a 78-0 rout of Louisiana College.
• Central Arkansas safety Michael Ware (Warren Central) had six total tackles in a 26-13 victory over Murray State.
• Mississippi College running back Peter Harris (Porter’s Chapel Academy) had one carry for two yards in a 34-9 win over Southwest Baptist.
• Northern Colorado cornerback Paul Wilson (Vicksburg High) had one solo tackle and one assist in a 43-28 loss to South Dakota.
• Southern Miss wide receiver DeMichael Harris (St. Aloysius) caught one pass for 12 yards and returned one kickoff for 16 yards in a 21-20 loss to Louisiana-Monroe.
• Southern Miss offensive lineman Drake Dorbeck (St. Aloysius) started at right tackle in the loss to ULM and helped the Golden Eagles gain 436 yards of offense.
• Louisiana-Monroe safety Kevin Jones (Madison Parish) had one solo tackle in the win over Southern Miss.
• Grambling linebacker De’Arius Christmas (Warren Central) had four total tackles and blocked a field goal in a 34-7 loss to Northwestern State.
• Middle Tennessee cornerback Chris Stamps (Warren Central) assisted on two tackles in a 61-37 win over UT-Martin.
• Ole Miss offensive lineman Ben Brown (St. Aloysius) started at right guard as the Rebels piled up 646 yards of offense in a 76-41 win over Southern Illinois.
• Southeast Missouri State defensive lineman Josh Price (St. Aloysius) had four total tackles and one quarterback hurry in a 40-21 victory against Dayton.
• Cornell College (Iowa) wide receiver Patrick Brown (Vicksburg High) had two rushing attempts for two yards in a 42-7 loss to Coe College.
• Tennessee Titans cornerback Malcolm Butler (Vicksburg High) had five total tackles, including one for loss, and one interception in a 27-20 loss to the Miami Dolphins on the NFL’s opening day.
