Help out the VNMP

Vicksburg National Military Park, which we all know is critical in several ways to our community, is looking for volunteers to assist in cleaning and sprucing up the grounds and do some minor repairs on the hallowed site.
The volunteer work day will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and last until around noon, according to VNMP Superintendent Bill Justice, who said people who volunteer do not need to stay for the full event, but should arrive no later than 8:15.
The event will focus on the South Loop of Scenic Drive, Pemberton’s Headquarters and the Shirley House.
“Last year we had close to 100 volunteers, which was amazing,” said Justice. “This year, we hope for an even bigger turnout. With the community’s help, we can make a big difference in the state of this park.”
Volunteers are asked to register for the event in the visitor center, beginning at 7:30 a.m. All equipment will be provided, but participants should wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Justice said those wanting to use weed-eaters should wear boots.
The family-friendly event will be available for all age groups and skills, but anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Once the event ends, lunch will be provided by the Friends of Vicksburg National Military Park and Campaign.
