Thomas Henry Oakes Sr.

Thomas Henry Oakes, Sr. died on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018. He was 91 years of age.
Mr. Oakes was born on Dec. 6, 1926, to the late Joseph Wallace Oakes and Edna Elizabeth Sanders Oakes. After his service in the Navy during WWII, he worked for Bellsouth/AT&T for 39 years and was a member of the Bellsouth Pioneers. He was very active in his community where he coached and umpired for the Babe Ruth League, founded the Redwood Pee Wee football team, served on the Culkin and Oak Ridge water boards, and he was very active in the Good Sam’s Club. He was a member of Redwood United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Wallace Carol Oakes and 10 siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loga Anna Oakes; his sons, Thomas Henry “Bo” Oakes, Jr. (Paulette) and James Warren Oakes (Grace); daughters, Jo Ann Dobbins (Charles) and Linda Sue Martin (Jim); brother, John Oakes; 10 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Albert Smith, Jay Hodges, Clay Garner, Cole Surrell, Bubba Daigre, Robert Martin, Glenn Young and Bob Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be James Wood, Joel Madore, Charles Tedder, John Earl Oakes, Nathan Oakes, Willie Woodrick and The Bellsouth Pioneers.
