Construction on the new Love’s Transportation Center at the Ceres Industrial Park moved closer to reality Monday.

During their regular meeting, the Warren County Board of Supervisors approved Board President Richard George to sign the closing documents on the 20-acre site location at the suggestion of Pablo Diaz, Vicksburg-Warren Chamber of Commerce executive director.

“Fortunately, after a few months of due diligence, now we have Love’s Transportation ready to move on closing on the property,” Diaz said. “The closing is scheduled to happen on Oct. 25.”

The company has received two extensions from county officials on their 150-day contract they signed in February, resulting in the county receiving an additional $25,000 from the developers.

Love’s Transportation also requested and received a variance from the supervisors for a 100-foot tall sign that will be erected near Interstate 20. Covenants restricting height of signs are currently in place at the industrial complex.

In February, the supervisors approved the potential sale of land at the industrial park for the creation of a Love’s Transportation Center.

Diaz said at the time it was a $10 million-plus investment and potentially create up to 50 new jobs and include a restaurant.

There are currently 14 Love’s Travel Stops in Mississippi and more than 450 in 41 states.

The supervisors also handled several routine matters during their Monday meeting, including a contractor estimate of $149,921.40 for work on the No. 3 Port Warehouse.

During work on the warehouse, county engineer John McKee told the board an underground system at the warehouse is not working properly. The repair cost of $26,115 will come from the current grant to perform the work.

The approvals are subject to both Port Commission and Mississippi Department of Transportation approval.

The supervisors recessed their meeting until 9 a.m. Nov. 5 in their boardroom on the third floor of the Warren County Courthouse.
