Get ready for “Fright Night Movie Night” at the Southern Cultural Heritage Center.
The event, which will be held Oct. 25, will feature Halloween themed movies.
“We did this last year,” executive director of the SCHF Stacey Mahoney said, and two movies were offered — one inside the SCHC and the other outside under the stars.
Last year, Mahoney said feature films offered were “Halloween,” with actress Jamie Lee Curtis and Disney’s “Hocus Pocus.”
Mahoney said the idea behind offering two movies was to allow for a family friendly evening.
“This is so parents don’t have to worry about getting a babysitter and they can come and bring the kids and if the kids are young there have options,” she said.
This year’s feature films will be “Fright Night,” which first aired in 1985. Written and directed by Tom Holland the film follows young Charley Brewster, who discovers that his next-door neighbor is a vampire.
The kid-friendly film will be “Monster House,” a 3D computer-animated family horror comedy.
Although “Fright Night Movie Night” is held as a fundraiser for the SCHF, Mahoney said, “It is by no means a money maker. This is really more of a community outreach event.”
During the screenings, the SCHF will have concessions for sale, Mahoney said, which will include popcorn, snacks, water, soft drinks and beer.
The gates will open at 7 p.m. and the movies will start at dark.
“It has to get all the way dark for the movie to be seen,” Mahoney said, of the feature film that will be screened outside in the SCHC courtyard.
The children’s film will be offered inside the facility.
Mahoney said seating will be available, but patrons are welcome to bring their own.
“We will have chairs available, but people are welcome to bring their own or blankets or what ever makes them comfortable to sit and watch a movie,” she said.
Tickets for the “Fright Night Movie Night” are $8 and $5 for children. For more information, call 601-631-2997.
