Arnold Durell Hawkins

Arnold Durell Hawkins of Gluckstadt, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Nov. 7, 2018. He was 88 years old. Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at First United Methodist Church, 234 West Jackson St., Ridgeland, at 1 p.m.; visitation beginning at 11:30 a.m. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Natchez Trace Funeral Home, 759 Highway 51, Madison, MS 39110.
Durell was born in Jackson, to the late Wardell and Delma Burge Hawkins. He graduated from Madison-Ridgeland High School. He joined the National Guard and later served in the Korean War as a military police sergeant. After returning from Korea, he began a lengthy career with Mississippi Power & Light/Entergy. He was a member of the IBEW Local 605.
He was a devoted husband to his wife Carolyn Burkette Hawkins for 65 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching football and being outdoors. He was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Burkette Hawkins, of Gluckstadt; daughters Cynthia R. Hawkins (Bill) of Vicksburg, Deborah H. Gullick (Gary) of Cleveland, and Tracy H. Crain (James) of Gluckstadt; two sisters, Trudy H. Stringer (Jimmy) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Rie Barthelme (Rick), of Miramar Beach, Florida; 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Willard Hawkins and sister Patricia Hawkins Pleasant.
