Mary Jo Wright

Mary Jo Wright died Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at St. Dominic’s Hospital. She was 73. 

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was the daughter of the late Abe E. Abraham and Gloria Farris Abraham. She was a 1963 graduate of H.V. Cooper High School and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s in voice and music education. During her years teaching, she taught at Eliza Fox Elementary, Halls Ferry Elementary, Jett Elementary, Vicksburg Intermediate and after retirement was a regular substitute at Porter’s Chapel Academy. She was a lifelong member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church where she led a very active church life serving as choir director and secretary. Also, she was active in the Parish Council, serving as a member, holding various offices and advisor. 

She is survived by her husband, Ray Wright; daughter Angela Wright Lovins; granddaughters Mary Claire Lovins and Anna Grace Lovins; sisters Gloria Dornbusch (Albert), Helen Abraham and Lillian Mackay (Bruce); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Joylene Abraham Carlson.

Arrangements are being handled by Riles Funeral Home with visitation at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Vicksburg, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at 10 a.m. with the funeral following at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in her name or to the charity of your choice. Pallbearers will be Chance Curtis, Randy Curtis, Jake Dornbusch, Stephen Griner, Dr. Will Mackay and Mark Neilson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the men and women of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, David Hughes, Robert Nader, Dr. Jody Wilson, Albert Dornbusch, Bruce Mackay, Don Mackay, Matt Carlson, Dr. George Abraham, Dr. Bobby Abraham, Keith Collins, Craig Gibson and Ronnie Wright.
