CWD sampling program
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is encouraging hunters to participate in its voluntary statewide Chronic Wasting Disease sampling efforts during the 2018–19 hunting season. MDWFP has set up 21 drop-off freezers across the state for hunters to deposit deer heads for testing, including one at Mahannah Wildlife Management Area in Redwood.

In addition, MDWFP will operate check stations for hunters to bring their harvested deer for sampling. Two of them will be at the Onward Store on U.S. 61, and the boat ramp at the intersection of Mississippi 465 and U.S. 61. The check stations will be in operation Dec. 29-30 and Jan. 5-6.
