JACKSON — Because of heavy flooding and high river levels, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced Tuesday that Mahannah Wildlife Management Area will be closed to the public for deer hunting until further notice.
Mahannah will remain open for waterfowl hunting only.
All deer hunts, including previously re-scheduled deer hunts in January, have been cancelled until further notice.
Waterfowl hunting will be allowed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays, for pre-drawn and standby hunters. Due to widespread flooding, hunters can utilize boats to gain access to designated waterfowl hunting areas.
Waterfowl hunters are encouraged to arrive early to sign in for the waterfowl draw hunt process which begins at 5 a.m.
