The driver of an 18-wheeler was injured early Thursday morning when his rig struck an unoccupied Jeep parked on the shoulder of Interstate 20 and left the highway.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Kervin Stewart said the truck carrying rolls of carpet was westbound on I-20 about 3 a.m. when the wreck occurred.
The crash caused the driver to lose control, and the truck left the highway, crashing into several trees on the shoulder.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to Merit River Region, and crews were on scene clearing the roadway, and traffic delays were expected.
According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation website, as of 9:25 a.m. the right lane of I-20 westbound is blocked and will remain so for about another hour.
This wreck is currently under investigation.
