Funeral services for Euphytee Williams Sr., are to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Chau Nguyen officiating; interment shall follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be held on Monday at 6:30, with visitation from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m.
Euphytee Williams Sr., passed away on Monday, Dec. 31, in his residence following a lengthy illness. He was 96.
He was born on Feb. 26 1922, in Edwards, to Josie Williams. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and Howard University.
He worked as a postman for the US Postal service for over 40 years. He was the last postman appointed in this district by a US Congressman to drive a rural route. He was also honored for his record of driving more than one million miles without a wreck.
He was a charter member of the Port City Kiwanis’s Club, its first integrated chapter.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the South Pacific.
He was very politically active. He traveled to Washington, DC to see the first inauguration of President Barack Obama and he also went to the swearing in of President Bill Clinton.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Theresa P. Williams; son, Euphytee Williams Jr.; mother, Josie Williams and great uncle, George “Jake” Wells.
He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Williams and Denise (Lloyd) Darasaw of Silver Springs, Maryland; a son, Ronald (Ana) Williams of Van Nuys, California; a daughter-in-law, Pearl Williams of Rocky Mount, North Carolina; nephew and adopted son, Setri (Akpene) Nyomi of Ghana; six grandchildren, two great grand daughters; uncle, Robert Morris and cousin, Len Arthur Cooper.
