Gators, Lady Vikes suffer shutout losses

RIDGELAND — Kolby Smith racked up nine strikeouts and only walked two batters in a four-inning no-hitter as Ridgeland beat Vicksburg High 15-0 on Tuesday.

Ridgeland scored seven runs in each of the first two innings to pull ahead early in the baseball region opener for both teams. Smith had a double and an RBI, while Kelvon Johnson was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.

Vicksburg (3-1, 0-1 Region 4-5A) suffered its first loss of the season. It will play Ridgeland again Thursday at 7 p.m. at Bazinsky Field.

Pearl 14, Warren Central 0

PEARL — Pearl took advantage of two errors and a string of singles to score nine runs in the bottom of the second inning, and went on to beat Warren Central 14-0 in a softball game Tuesday.

Pearl had seven hits and sent 14 batters to the plate in its big second inning. Lacey Knight capped the rally with a two-run single with two outs, and finished the game 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Warren Central (2-4) only had three hits — singles by Kaylee Hoeft, Annayln Nevels and Laura Reagan Logue.

Warren Central lost for the third time in four games. It will host crosstown rival Vicksburg High Thursday at 6 p.m.
