Vicksburg National Military Park to host living history weekend

The Vicksburg National Military Park will present a living history weekend on June 15 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The 1st Mississippi Cavalry, Tishomingo’s Avengers, a Civil War surgeon and the Vicksburg National Military Park’s cannon crew will conduct demonstrations throughout both days.
“This will be a great opportunity for our visitors to experience what life during the campaign and siege of Vicksburg was like” Superintendent Bill Justice said.
On both June 15 and 16 Tishomingo’s Avengers will demonstrate marching and drill, build fortification structures, and portray life in Vicksburg during the time of the Civil War.
On Saturday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., the 1st Mississippi Cavalry will demonstrate cavalry tactics.
On Saturday, June 15 at noon, a Civil War surgeon will talk about the life of a field medic and the tools that they would have used to save and preserve the lives of injured soldiers.
There will be cannon demonstrations at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on both days.
The event itself is free, however park entrance still fees apply.
