Nancy Williams Mumper

Nancy Williams Mumper passed away Friday, June 28, 2019.

She was the daughter of D.H. and Susan Turner Williams of Vicksburg. She was born July 29, 1920 in Delhi, La.

She graduated from Carr Central High School in 1938, and attended All Saints College and graduated from Capital City Business College in Little Rock, Ark. 

After Pearl Harbor, she received an appointment to Washington, D.C., and worked in the Army Ordinance Department at the Pentagon. While in Washington, she met her husband, Robert H. Mumper of Carslise, Pa.

Mr. and Mrs. Mumper were married May 28, 1960, in Hagerstown, Md. Mr. Mumper was an Army radio operator in World War II and was also a P.O.W. After Mrs. Mumper retired in 1975 and Mr. Mumper retired in 1977, they moved to Charleston, South Carolina. 

After the death of her husband in 1990, Mrs. Mumper moved to Sunnybrook Retirement Home, where she was a charter member and resided there until two and a half years ago, when she moved to Vicksburg and was a resident of Heritage Retirement Home  at  the time of her death. 

Mrs. Mumper is survived by a brother, John Herman Williams of New York City, N.Y., and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mumper is preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Mumper; three brothers, D.T. Williams, John Melvin Williams and George Williams; four sisters, Rebecca Biedenharn, Hilda White, Betty Sue Wilkerson and Francis “Coot” Williams. 

Mrs. Mumper was a member of Vicksburg Church of Christ.  Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at Frank J. Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Macomber officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service  at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the Heritage House Retirement staff and so many friends, including her sitters, Lynda Jackson, Melissa Hayes, Latoya O’Neal, Adrea Wells and Lessie Wright, Kindred Hospice and  Dr. J.R Barnes for their loving care of Mrs. Mumper.
