The sixth annual Ritz on the River event, which entertained 600 guests at the Vicksburg Convention Center last week, was more than a fun outing for Warren County residents.

First, the event donates a portion of proceeds to a local charity each year. This year, The Warrior Bonfire Program received more than $4,000, which is the most Ritz has ever donated to a charity.

The Warrior Bonfire Program was created by Vicksburg resident Dan Fordice as a way to support service members who have been wounded in combat operations. The organization’s purpose is to “encourage camaraderie between those that can fully understand the mindset of a combat wounded soldier and/or their spouse, foster healing through those relationships, inspire growth toward new passions and purpose post-military service, or simply know they are not alone.”

It was a pleasure watching the presentation of the donation to Fordice, who has volunteered much of his own time to this organization, and we are proud of the Vicksburg Convention Center for donating more money to this year’s charity than has been presented in the history of Ritz. 

Second, Annette Kirklin and her team at the convention center presented a wonderful showcase of what her facility and staff can do in terms of putting on an event. Each year, meeting planners are invited to attend the event to get a taste of what a program is like at the Vicksburg Convention Center. The Havana Nights—themed event was well done, from the decorations and food to the Nashville-based 12 South Band and other interactive entertainment, like salsa dancing from Salsa Mississippi and the photo booth that offered one complimentary print per guest. 

We are proud of the Vicksburg Convention Center for supporting a local charity, putting on a fun evening for Warren County residents, and representing Vicksburg well by showcasing their many talents.

Kirkland said the convention center has scheduled 12 “heavy conventions” by inviting meeting planners to the event. Our hope is the convention center schedules many more after another successful event.
