To those registered voters in Warren County’s District 3, the eyes of the county are upon you and the balance of the Warren County Board of Supervisors rests in your voting hands.

Tuesday, in the runoff election for the Democratic nomination for Warren County Board of Supervisors District 3, the voters will decide whether to support incumbent Supervisor Charles Selmon or political newcomer Shawn Jackson.

The winner of the race moves on to November’s general election to face independent David Sharp.

In the party primary earlier this month, only 18 percent of registered voters in District 3 showed up to vote. That is not only embarrassing, but depressing.

We expect better Tuesday.

Registered voters in other districts also have a job to do in helping decide runoff elections on the statewide Republican ticket, but it is those residents in District 3, who must step up and must turn out for Warren County.

These two candidates have put too much work in getting their message out, shaking hands, putting out signs and asking for votes for just 18 percent to show up and do their job. They deserve better, Warren County deserves better.

Today, we do not offer an endorsement in the District 3 race for one candidate or the other. Both candidates have strong messages and both carry a servant’s heart in wanting to serve the community. Of that, we are certain.

What we call to happen, is that more than just two out of every 10 registered voters in District 3 show up, do their job, fulfill their responsibility and cast a vote.

It is hypocritical to hold candidates and elected officials accountable for jobs they hold, when we as voters cannot even fulfill our responsibilities.

So to those 5,701 registered to vote in District 3 — those who vote at the American Legion on Monroe Street, the Tree House Banquet Hall on Cherry Street and Travelers Rest Baptist Church on Bowmar Avenue — all eyes are on you Tuesday. Don’t let the candidates down. Don’t let your district down. Don’t let Warren County down.
