Two candidates withdraw from supervisor races

The list of candidates vying for seats on the Warren County Board of Supervisors became a bit shorter Thursday.
Sara Carlson Dionne, a member of the Warren County Election Commission, announced today that Patrick Vinzant withdrew from the District 5 supervisor race, while William Halpin pulled out of the District 2 supervisor race.
Dionne said neither candidate provided a reason for withdrawing.
Vinzant reportedly filed his withdrawal statement Tuesday, while Halpin did so Wednesday.
With Halpin pulling out of the District 2 race, that leaves incumbent William Banks and challenger Stan Collins vying for the seat. In District 5, Vinzant’s departure leaves incumbent Richard George and challengers Carl Campbell and Kelle Banks Barfield.
Dionne said while there is no deadline for a candidate to withdraw, the county is just days away from submitting information for the Nov. 5 general election ballot.
Paper ballots, Dionne said, need to be completed, printed and returned to the county no later than Monday, Sept. 23, for the start of absentee voting.
Any additional withdrawals after the ballot has been sent to the Secretary of State’s office and to the ballot printers, would leave the candidate’s name on the ballot and “confuse voters,” Dionne said.
The final day to register to vote for the general election is Monday, Oct. 7.
