Two Vicksburg teens shot and wounded during a Sunday morning fight on North Frontage Road remain hospitalized and in stable condition, Vicksburg Police Lt. Johnnie Edwards said.
Shemar Keyon Anderson, 18, and Ladelle Devoils, 19, were wounded in the 2:30 a.m. fight, which occurred between the Ivy Place and Vicksburg Ford. Edwards said the fight involved several people, adding more than 20 shell casings from different caliber firearms were recovered at the scene.
“We are still trying to find out who was involved,” he said.
Edwards said Anderson and Devoils were taken by a private vehicle to the Merit Health River Region West Campus. The hospital has no emergency room, and someone at the hospital called 911 about two people with gunshot wounds.
At the same time, Edwards said, a police officer making traffic stop on North Frontage near the area of the fight heard shooting and told a dispatcher that shots were fired in the area.
“We had officers responding to both calls,” he said.
Both Anderson and Devoils were initially taken to the Merit Health River Region West Campus, 1111 North Frontage Road, which has no emergency room and then transferred to Merit Health River Region.
Anderson was later flown by air ambulance to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was last listed in critical condition. Devoils remained at River Region, where he was last listed in serious condition.
