After months of knocking on doors, asking for votes, raising money and placing election signs throughout the county, those seeking office in Warren County are just one week away from turning the election over to the voters.
The race for Warren County Sheriff, the five spots on the Warren County Board of Supervisors and Warren County Prosecuting Attorney will join statewide races on the ballot for the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election.
“With such important races, we would hope for a good turnout,” Warren County Circuit Clerk Jan Daigre said. “Over the past few days — Friday, Saturday and this morning — we have seen absentee voting pick up.”
Over the past week, the number of voters who have filed absentee ballots has more than doubled.
Daigre said Monday that 422 ballots have been filled out and returned. Saturday marks the final day to not only cast an absentee ballot, but is also the final day address changes can be filed ahead of next Tuesday’s election.
“I print the polling books Saturday and once those books are printed and finalized, there will not be a chance to update an address until after the election,” she said.
Daigre’s office, open throughout the week, will also be open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon for absentee voting and address changes.
“If anyone, for any reason, believes they are going to be out of town next Tuesday then they should cast an absentee ballot,” she said.
Heading into the election, the county’s voter rolls have more than 29,000 registered voters.
Polling places throughout the county will open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, with each closing at 7 p.m.
Those voting will need to bring with them a government-issued photo ID.
A driver’s license and any federal, state or local government photo ID, that has been issued within the past 10 years is acceptable.
Those voting can bring with them a sample ballot, but voters are not allowed to wear a shirt, button, hat, or any other material promoting a candidate’s name.
