Before criticizing, learn more about Vicksburg Warren Humane Society

Dear editor,
I have only written one letter to the editor years ago regarding the closing of Bovina Elementary. I wrote the letter in regard to the school closing because it involved my children, their education and well being. It was something I was truly concerned and passionate about. Now, I find myself writing again about something I am passionate about yet concerned about; the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society.
I’ve learned there are some people who can do nothing but show criticism toward this facility and its staff. I’m writing this letter as a form of confronting these critics and somehow, hopefully, setting them straight regarding the Humane Society.
Before you go home and start posting negativity on social media and, firing other people up about your so-called bad experiences you should put yourself in their shoes.
The Humane Society operates on donations from people in this city, county and surrounding areas. These donations help provide shelter for these animals that would otherwise be out in the heat or cold. It also provides the food and water that is given to these animals on a daily basis. Even when the shelter is closed, these dedicated employees sacrifice their time to go walk the dogs, make sure they have fresh water, food and clean cages. These employees who give their time and energy in caring for these animals day after day are the same employees you cowardly get behind a computer and criticize.
Georgia Lynn runs the Humane Society with integrity and compassion, despite having a decrease in donations from time to time. She expects nothing less from her employees. The animals are treated with respect as are the people who come in, even if they are only looking.
Animals are brought in often that have been abused, lost or can no longer be cared for financially. Georgia and her employees take these animals in, care for them and do whatever is necessary to get them ready for their forever home. Again, all on donations received and sometimes, out of their own pockets when donations aren’t received.
So, the next time anyone feels the need to criticize, maybe you should go down to the shelter and volunteer. See what they see and experience what they experience first hand. Then, and only then, will you realize the enormity of work these employees face every day yet still have the compassion it takes to care for something that can not care for itself.
Only God can judge these employees but I can assure you he is holding a special place in Heaven for each and every one of them. So, before passing judgment against hard-working individuals try volunteering. It will change your outlook completely.
If you are a pet owner, you know the time, care and money you invest in keeping them safe and healthy. Georgia and her employees are trying to do the same and don’t deserve disrespect.
Donations of your time, money or both are always welcomed at the Humane Society. Please show your support.
