Jack G. Virden

Jack G. Virden, 79 years of age, passed away at home on Nov. 12, 2019.

He was born in Vicksburg and raised in Rolling Fork.

In 1963, after graduating from Mississippi College, Jack returned to Vicksburg to work with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for 35 years. He served as a comptroller and chief of information management. 

In his life, Jack loved his volunteer work with Special Olympics, Vicksburg Early Education, Council on Special Education to the state Superintendent of Educators and State Board for the Department of Rehabilitation.

He served as chairman of the Board of Directors for MS Dept of  Rehab for several years. Jack also loved being active in work at First Baptist Church.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Maxwell Virden Sr. and Annie Prince Clements Virden.

 Survivors include his wife, Sharon White Virden; son, Jonathan Hawkins Virden; daughter, Amy Catherine Holloway; two brothers, Wilson Maxwell Virden Jr. (Beddy Ann); Thad Clements Virden (Nancy); and two grandchildren, Hawkins Holloway and Sarah Beth Holloway. 

His celebration of life services will be at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg. Visitation is 1 p.m., and the service at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019.

Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork at approximately 3:45 p.m. Saturday. 

Pallbearers will be Bruce Thompson, Andy Daniels, Albert Smathers, David Blackledge, Jay Woods, Kearney Waites, Morris Stuart, Robert Peters, Chris Howard and Brett Bailess. Rudy Caldwell and Tom Hill are honorary pallbearers. Rev. Jim Hess and Dr. Matt Buckles will officiate the celebration.
