While the rubble that was once Building 9 at The Landings Apartments continues to smolder, one family is both thankful to be safe, but heartbroken at the loss of their pets.
In a touching Facebook message Tuesday, Clay and Korinne Heying called for the community’s help in locating two members of their family missing since Monday afternoon’s blaze — their cats Kiki and Phoebe.
“I wake up this morning, and I am so thankful that Clay and I, and the other 21 families are safe. I am thankful that we are lucky enough to have a roof over our head,” Korinne wrote. “However as I lay here this morning, I am heartbroken. I lay here and think about our sweet babies that may still be out there and how scared they must be.
“Please pray that we will find our sweet babies and bring them home.”
A total of 12 apartments were completely destroyed during Monday afternoon’s fire that ignited around 2 p.m. The Landings Apartments are located on Fairways Drive in the Fairways subdivision. Officials said a total of 23 people were displaced in the fire.
Korinne, who gave The Post permission to use her Facebook comments and the photographs of her cats, said the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community has been so appreciated.
“We are so thankful for all our family and friends that came together, offering us food, shelter, clothes and love,” she wrote.
