For Warren Central Intermediate teacher Woodrow Price III, each day provides a new challenge and a new opportunity to impact the life of a child.

“Each day I enter my classroom, I encounter moving educational experiences,” Price said. “My students understand the importance of working hard and feel comfortable in knowing that it is OK to mess up.”

Price, a fifth-grade science teacher at Warren Central Intermediate, is one of the educators nominated for the Vicksburg-Warren County Chamber of Commerce’s Teacher of the Year awards.

The chamber will select and announce one elementary and one secondary teacher of the year at the chamber luncheon on Feb. 25. The winner of each award will receive $1,000 from Ameristar Casino and the runner-up for each award will receive $500 from Mutual Credit Union.

Price is entering his 12th year in education and said in his Teacher of the Year application that he is a teacher because “teaching challenges him to grow.”

He earned both his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in elementary education from Alcorn State. He later received a degree from Mississippi College and is currently working on his doctorate in education leadership from William Carey University.

Price began his educational career at A.W. Watson Elementary School in Port Gibson before moving to Sherman Avenue Elementary in 2015. He joined the staff at WCI in 2018.

“The sole purpose of education at any level is to prepare students for life,” Price writes in his application. “As a 21st Century elementary educator, one way I ensure that my students are connected to the world around them is with technology.

“Using technology, I have been able to create invigorating lessons that maximize my student’s learning experience by equipping them with the essential skills needed to navigate a rapidly changing world.”
