Bryan Lancaster Flournoy

Bryan Lancaster Flournoy passed Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at the Mississippi Veterans Home in Jackson. He was 74-years-old.

Mr. Flournoy was born in Vicksburg and lived there from 5-years-old until he graduated from H.V. Cooper High School in 1964 with his grandparents, B.L. “Buck” and Effie Fielder.  

Bryan attended Brigham Young University during 1968-1970 where he studied engineering technology after graduating at Hinds Junior College in Raymond. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 1967 through March 1988 in naval intelligence. He retired at the rank of E-6.

While working at ERDC-WES Bryan worked many natural disasters for FEMA such as the Northridge Earthquake, a hurricane in Puerto Rico, Hurricanes Andrew, Ike and Katrina.

He retired in 2011.  

Bryan was an avid student of genealogy for his roots Fielder/Flournoy and was a member of the Huguenot Society.

Bryan is survived by his wife of 33 years Amy Douglas Flournoy. He was preceded in death by his aforementioned grandparents; his parents, Bryan and Marjorie Flournoy; sister, Marjorie Mae Blackwell; and brother, George Marshall Flournoy.

Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Riles Funeral Home at 5000 Indiana Ave. in Vicksburg.  A graveside service will be held Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 326 Lover’s Lane, Vicksburg.

The family greatly appreciates the compassionate care Bryan received at the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Nursing Home in Jackson for the last three years, several brief and recent stays at Baptist Hospital and all other medical facilities and caregivers including Kindred Hospices.

In lieu of flowers, Bryan talked about his love for Israel and Hadassah, an international healthcare and Zionist organization.
