The increase in cases comes a day before officials with University of Mississippi Medical Center and the Mississippi State Department of Health is set to host a one-day test event in Vicksburg. The test event, which is free to the public, will be held in the back parking lot of Pemberton Square Mall between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Only those individuals who have registered, been screened ahead of time and received an appointment time will be allowed in the test site for testing.

Those individuals experiencing symptoms related to the COVID-19 virus and who want to be tested must call 601-496-7200 for an appointment.

You can register using the C-spire Health app to be screened for an appointment or you can call 601-496-7200 to be screened.

You can follow this link to download the C-Spire app to your smartphone: https://www.cspire.com/cms/wireless/cspire-health-download/

Appointments for testing will only be given to people who are symptomatic for COVID-19 and are determined to need testing. Anyone not experiencing symptoms is asked not to use the app or call.

During the screening, a medical provider will determine the patient’s level of risk for having COVID-19 based on their symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath or sore throat. Anyone found to be high-risk for having coronavirus will receive an appointment to be tested at a collection site closest to them.

Anyone determined to be at low risk for infection won’t receive an appointment for collection of specimens, but instead will receive instructions on social distancing, home isolation and self-care — and told to call back if symptoms worsen.

At the site, those individuals with appointments will remain in their vehicles and will be approached by a medical provider who will conduct the test. The individual being tested will not need to get out of the vehicle.

UMMC will notify those tested of the results and give further instructions.
