The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Mississippi increased to 1,177 Thursday, with the number of virus-related deaths now at 26.

That reported number of confirmed cases is an increase of 104 cases and four additional deaths since Wednesday.

In Warren County, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains at two, but that number is likely to rise after more testing is conducted.

Tuesday, 75 people were tested at a one-day test event held by officials with the University of Mississippi Medical Center at Pemberton Square Mall. Those test results are not likely to be known until the end of the week.

Wednesday, Gov. Tate Reeves announced a statewide shelter-in-place order that will go into effect Friday at 5 p.m. and continue through April 20 at 8 a.m. This is yet another step state officials are taking in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and to keep the state’s healthcare system from getting overwhelmed.

A press conference featuring city and county leaders is scheduled to be held Thursday at 2 p.m. on the steps of the Warren County Courthouse to address what measures are being adopted locally to compliment Reeves’ statewide order.
